Five Senses
Planning the perfect trip itinerary doesn’t guarantee being awe-struck. It is the moment that settles over your senses like a quiet wash of water and sound.
Awe does not announce itself. It does not wait for the right landmark or the right timing or the right lighting. Awe arrives the way water does. It is an emotion that is mysterious like water. It surrounds your senses before you realize you are inside something larger than your everyday life.
Awe is felt and alive in our five senses.
Scents of Arrival
Travel doesn’t begin at the airport or when the bags hit the floor. It begins the instant something shifts enough to signal you’ve crossed across the vacation threshold.
For me, that signal is sometimes a hotel lobby scent.
The doors open, the air shifts, and that gentle blend of clean, fresh, floral, or woody notes waft towards your nose like on a ribbon floating through the air. It’s subtle, and when your body is ready it’s unmistakable. Your body responds in kind with a subtle slowing in pace, a breath that lands differently, a small release like shoulders relaxing that wasn’t planned.
That scent is not indulgence. It’s a sensory interruption.
